In a recent Twitter Spaces discussion, I engaged in a fascinating conversation with Robert Scoble about the potential applications of emerging technologies in music and performance arts.

Here I wanted to share my exploration of the endless opportunities provided by integrating sound with space through artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Imagine a world where sound emanates from objects, the environment reacts to music, and the very air we breathe becomes an instrument.

This is not science fiction, but a very plausible future for the music industry.

Sound from Objects and Spaces

With advanced machine learning and spatial audio technologies, we can turn ordinary objects and environments into sources of sound.

Imagine attending a virtual concert where the guitar strings reverberate through the air, and you feel the thump of the drums in your chest.

But the magic doesn’t stop there. Through technologies like Core ML, objects in your environment can become instruments. Your table could resonate with the bass, the walls might whisper the backup vocals, and a painting could emanate ambient melodies.

Adapting Sound to Visual Surroundings

Another fascinating possibility is the adaption of sound based on visual surroundings.

For instance, if you are experiencing an augmented reality (AR) performance in your living room, the music could change based on the objects and layout.

If a wall or door blocks a part of the sound, the music could adapt accordingly. This could also be used for immersive storytelling, where the environment actively responds to the narrative or vice versa.
